With Active Merchandiser’s Spotlight configuration tools, you are able to edit your application’s home screen as well as overall branding in just a few easy steps.
Access www.activemerchandiser.com and choose “Login” on the upper right. Enter your Active Merchandiser user name and password, and click “Login.” On the Get Started page, choose “Spotlight” from the side menu.
From the dashboard, select “Merchandise.” Next, you will need to select which application you wish to edit. Select “Open App” to go to the My App page.
The My App page is the central location for your Spotlight personalization. There are 3 main processes for getting your application to look just the way you want it to: Home Blink, Action Images and publishing.
The Home Blink is the animation that will display across your application’s home screen. This is a great location for images of new items, promotions or accent images. The Home Blink really sets the mood of the application when first logging in.
By default, the Home Blink will be sized to allow for the display of featured products underneath it. If you wish to turn off featured items and increase the size of the Home Blink, click on the “Home Screen Layout” link under More Options and uncheck the “Include featured products on the home screen” option. This may always be turned back on.
Clicking on the Home Blink button will open up the Home Blink Editor. This page works just like the other editors in AM with all of the same tools at your disposal. Images will be pulled from the Image
Library and displayed in the Images tab of the editor (shown below). To add image, click on the “Image
Library” button at the top of the editor. For more information on using the editor, please visit our “How to Use Blink” tutorial in the Help section.
Note: When adding images, bear in mind that the standard Home Blink with featured products active will be 748 x 410 pixels. If featured products are not active, the blink size will be 748 x 636 pixels. When adding images to the editor, you may select the image on the canvas to display Image Properties (seen
above) and click on the “Fit to Frame” button to adjust the image to fill the canvas.
Once you have put your Blink frames together, you can choose the animation options. To do so, click
“Step 2: Animate” up near the top of the screen. These settings will let you choose how to transition from one to another and their timing.
Be sure to save your settings when you are done and click “Finish + Go Back” to return to the My App
Action Images are customizable searches placed on the homepage in the form of a scrollable image. To create an action image, we first begin by clicking “Action Images” to open up the image editor.
These images should represent their corresponding searches. For example, for a search of “Tabletop” you could assign it an image of one of your most popular tabletop items. You can create Action Images by using the Active Merchandiser image editor or you can load them into the image library as finished images.
Before an image can be used to create an Action Image it first needs to be added to the Image Library. Click on the blue Image Library button to upload images you may need to use to create Action Images. We recommend uploading PNG or JPEG images 300 pixels wide and 224 pixels high for creating Action Images.
Next, you will need to assign the search action to the image. Click “Step 2: Assign Actions” near the top of the screen to access the action editor. Simply type in the category name that you would like to search for when the image is tapped in the application. Keep in mind that the app will search for exactly what is entered here so be certain that the word or phrase is entered correctly and can be found in the category column. Click “Save” when you are finished and “Finish + Go Back” to return to the My App page.
Look & Feel
Finally, you will want to add your branding to the application to really make it your own. Look & Feel can be found in the “More Options” section of the My App page.
Here, you may import a logo for your application. This logo will be displayed in the top left corner of the application homepage.
Logos should be no more than 40 pixels high and be in the PNG file format. The width can be variable but you don’t want to make it too wide since it may interfere with icons, buttons and text shown around the logo. We recommend no more than 380 pixels
wide. Although they don’t have to be a transparent PNG file is often best for displaying logos. Additionally, you may select the color scheme for the application toolbars and buttons.
Note: to select the colors for the different button states (active, inactive, etc.), click on the “Show More Options” button of the desired button.
Home Screen Layout
If using the feature product area on the home screen, you can set the filter and display properties for this area. The Sort Column Name determines how the featured items are sorted. ITEM_CODE, for example, sorts by SKU. “Is Descending” checkbox will toggle the order of the sort.
You may also select which columns define your featured items list. For a product to show in the featured product area, the value for the field specified in Flag Column Name needs to be populated with a value (not blank or 0). You may use the following flags: IS_NEW_FLAG, BEST_SELLER_FLAG, CLOSE_OUT_FLAG, or HOT_BUY_FLAG.
The Last Step
When you have completed your customizations, click “Save” and then “Finish + Go Back.” Remember that you can always click “Preview” to see how your changes will look on the application homepage.
Next, you are ready to Publish. From the My App page, click Step 3: Publish, and then “Continue” to confirm publishing. All of the new information will be pushed to your iPad and you will be prompted for updates the next time that you log in to the app.
Enjoy your Spotlight application!
