Import Your Catalog
To show your catalog, log in to ActiveMerchandiser.com and under Flip, click on Import a Catalog button and follow the ‘Build a Flip in 3 Simple Steps’ instructions. You can also view our “How to Use Flip” tutorial in the Help section. If you don’t have a catalog, you can use our Create tool to make one.
Create a Flip Group
The Flip group allows you to easily add and remove catalogs from your website. It is a customizable page which displays your catalogs in a gallery format for easy perusal.
To create the page, follow the instructions under “Step 3: Publish” and choose the first option for creating a Flip Group. Alternatively, select Advanced Tools from the side menu, Flip Groups, Create New Flip Group. Once you have named it, save, click Open Group, and then click Add or Remove Flips. From this menu, you can select which catalogs you wish to display in your Flip Group by checking the box next to them. Use the arrows or Order box to change the order of the display. Click Save when done.
Click on How to Link to Catalog Group. Customize the page with a header image, footer text and styles, and set the background color. Once you have completed your customization settings, click Save. Copy URL in the box marked “To link directly to this page” at the bottom of the page.
Note: The header image needs to satisfy the following conditions or else it will be scaled up:
- The image needs to be 800 px wide for the wide and short images (width > height * 2)
- The image needs to be 240 px tall for the other images (width <= height * 2)
For example you can customize the catalog page to look like screen shot below:
Add the Catalog Page to Your Store Site
The catalog page is best placed in a link somewhere on your home page or navigation bar. If you wish to place the link on a page behind your login, you may also do that for additional privacy. Login to your web hosting site and navigate to your homepage. Create a link and paste the URL copied above into the URL field and save.
Now that you’ve got your catalog showing on your storefront, you can think about adding in additional features like making it shoppable.
How to Make Your Flip Catalog Shoppable
To make the catalog shoppable, you will need to import product data into Active Merchandiser and create a Hot Spot on one or more of your catalog pages.
Export Your Data from Your Website
If you have a product data list available, export the data to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. If you are using a third party website management service such as Yahoo! Stores or Volusion, view the corresponding tutorial in our Help section for the appropriate procedure.
Now that you’ve got your product list in Excel format, it is time to upload your product data to your Active Merchandiser Product Library.
Import Your Product Data to Active Merchandiser
Select “Add Products,” then choose “browse” on the following page to search for your product file. When you’ve found it, double‐click to select it. The upload will begin automatically.
Active Merchandiser uses a standard vocabulary for product fields. For example, if you use “Item ID” for your unique product identifier, you will need to change that field to “SKU” (Active Merchandiser’s standard field for identifying a product code). See the Active Merchandiser Product Fields table (found at the end our “How to Upload Product Data” tutorial) for a list of Active Merchandiser’s standard fields. In the “Map Fields” window, you can change your fields to those that Active Merchandiser recognizes. If fields do not comply with the correct vocabulary, they will be ignored by default and displayed in grey. After you have made your changes, click Save. Click Next to finish the import.
Create a Hot Spot
Hot Spots are areas within your Flip project that will link to a web page, display product information, jump to a related page in your Flip catalog, or display product codes and link to full product information. When the customer clicks here, the specified action will occur.
Before making any Hot Spots, click Settings in the top right corner of the screen. From this menu, scroll down to the Hot Spots section and make sure that the box for “Show Mouse Over” is checked. Click Advanced Options and be sure to set the mouse overs to pull information by the “code (SKU)” field.
Next, we will set the options to link to your website’s product detail pages. Scroll down to the “Product Detail Page URL” option and select “Link to Your Website” option. Here, you will enter root URL for the image directory of your website. For example, Yahoo! Store sites will use the convention of root URL followed by a slash and the abbreviated product name with an .html tag. For example, a product called “black and white set” is shown as “http://www.designhomelife.com/blandwhset.html” on our Design Homelife site.
Finally, under Advanced Options, select “SKU” for the “Match Hot Spot Product Code to” option and “id (keyword1)” for the “Field to append to Product Detail URL” option. You will also want to choose open the product detail page in the same window that opens the AM viewer.
Let’s create a Hot Spot. Click the Hot Spots link to begin. Click on the page near the outside of the area where you want to place an “active” (link) hot spot. You’ll see a little circle appear. Click again in another area, creating a box that encloses the product but does not encroach upon another product. This will open up a dialog box to the left, set to Product type by default. Enter in the SKU of the hot spotted product and click Add to finish.
To learn about Hot Spots, watch the “How to Create Product Hotspots” video which can both be found in Active Merchandiser’s Help section. Or if you prefer review our “How to use Flip” tutorial also found in the Help section.
Active Merchandiser: How to Link to Your Shopping Cart
Add a Return Link To Your Product Detail Pages (Optional)
Often times, users using third party web providers (such as Yahoo! or Volusion) will link to their product detail pages from their catalog using Hot Spots. You may want to add the link to your Flip Group to each product detail page or to your shopping cart page to allow the user to return to the catalog they were just viewing and continue shopping. To do this, refer to the corresponding tutorial for the website provider that you are using.
The link will take the user back to the Flip Group page and ask them if they wish to open up the catalog they were just viewing or to explore the gallery.
